What became E-Com Systems, Inc. was initially established as a developmental project within its sister company, Orange Technologies, Inc., of Gaithersburg, Maryland, in 1997. Building upon Orange Technologies’ nearly twenty years of providing high technology computer products and services to commercial clients and several major government agencies, including the Department of Defense and the Social Security Administration, management decided to pursue opportunities in the exploding Internet arena. A department was established within Orange Technologies dedicated to the development of a state-of-the-art Internet-based Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) system. After a year of development and testing, the new separate entity E-Com Systems, Inc. was chartered in the State of Maryland and has since grown to provide global support to hundreds of companies transmitting EDI documents to thousands of their trading partners.
